Quick answer: Plain only. Air-popped, unbuttered, unsalted popcorn is a fine occasional treat — but butter, salt, and unpopped kernels are not.
Movie-night popcorn can be shared with your dog — as long as it’s the plain kind, and you’re careful about the kernels.
Plain and air-popped only
Buttered, salted, caramel, or microwave popcorn is too high in fat and sodium and can upset your dog’s stomach. Stick to plain, air-popped popcorn with nothing added.
Beware unpopped kernels
Hard, unpopped kernels can crack teeth and pose a choking hazard, and they can get stuck in gums. Only share fully popped pieces.
Just a few pieces
Popcorn is low-calorie when plain, but it’s a snack, not a meal. A small handful of plain pieces now and then is plenty.
