If your dog is a chewer, these sweet-potato chews are a wholesome, single-veg alternative to store-bought rawhide. A little low-fat cheese makes them extra tempting, but they’re just as good plain.

Cheesy Sweet-Potato Dog Chews
Ingredients
Method
- Preheat oven to 250°F (120°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment.
- Slice the sweet potatoes lengthwise into ¼-inch strips (a mandoline helps).
- Arrange in a single layer and sprinkle lightly with cheese, if using.
- Bake 3 hours, flipping halfway, until dried and chewy.
- Cool completely before serving.
Notes
🐾 Vet-informed safety note. Plain sweet potato is an excellent source of fiber and beta-carotene. Keep cheese to a minimum for dogs sensitive to dairy, and skip it entirely for pups with lactose issues. Always supervise chewing. Source: ASPCA — Fruits and Vegetables Safe for Dogs.
Storage & make-ahead
Store refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 1 week. Because they contain no preservatives, they won’t last as long as store-bought chews — make small batches.
