Quick answer: In moderation. Ripe mango flesh is a sweet, safe treat — but never let your dog have the pit, and watch the sugar.

Soft, sweet, and full of vitamins, mango is a tropical treat most dogs adore. Prep is everything, though.

Never the pit

The mango pit is a serious choking and intestinal-blockage risk, and it contains a trace of cyanide-producing compounds. Always remove the pit and peel before serving.

Peel it and cut small

The tough skin is hard to digest. Offer a few small, peeled chunks of ripe flesh only.

Sweet means moderation

Mango is high in natural sugar, so it’s an occasional treat — not an everyday one, especially for overweight or diabetic dogs.

🐾 Vet-informed safety note. Mango flesh is safe in small amounts; the pit and skin are not. Too much can cause an upset stomach. Check with your vet for diabetic dogs. Guidance consistent with the AKC.
